Update Docable after an upgrade

Last updated 25 October 2026.

For administrators: at the end the Docable MCP servers for Claude match the new release.

Templates keep their versions across an upgrade, and the active version keeps making documents. Only the MCP servers for Claude need a refresh when a release changes a tool’s inputs or outputs.

Before you start

  • You are an administrator, and the release notes list changed tools.

Steps

  1. In Setup, open API Catalog › MCP Servers and deactivate each Docable server. Tools can only change while a server is inactive.
  2. Deploy the new release’s server definitions again, or open each changed tool in Setup and save it.
  3. Activate the servers again and wait up to 2 minutes.

Example

After installing a release that changes generate_document, deactivate Docable Studio and Docable Documents, redeploy their definitions, and activate them again. People stay connected, and Claude reads the new tool list on its next session.

Check it worked

Ask Claude to call get_capabilities for Docable. It lists the tools, with the new inputs.

If it doesn’t work

What you see What to do
A tool’s inputs look out of date in Claude. The server was not deactivated before the change. Deactivate it, redeploy, and activate again.
Claude says the server did not respond just after you activated it. A server can take up to 2 minutes to answer. Wait, then try again.
Claude cannot connect after the upgrade. Check the server is active and the External Client App still has its callback URL and scopes. See Connect Claude to Docable.
