Formats for numbers, dates and text

Last updated 7 October 2026.

Select a field chip, then use the Format section of its panel. A format changes how one chip prints; the PDF and the Word file print it the same way. For the whole document, use Page › Language and region.

Numbers, amounts and percentages

For a Number, Currency or Percent field:

Control Choices
Decimal places 0 to 18. Left empty, an amount shows its currency’s standard decimals, and a percentage prints every decimal place it stores
Thousands separators On or off. An amount groups thousands unless you turn it off
Currency shown as The code, the symbol, or No currency
Percent shown as 12.5% or 0.125
Negative numbers −1,234 or (1,234)
Write as Digits or Words (one hundred and five)

An amount prints in its own currency and nothing is converted. A total, comparison, addition or subtraction that meets amounts in different currencies converts at Salesforce’s dated exchange rates for the day the document is generated. The Convert currency section of an amount’s panel converts one amount on purpose.
