Move a template between orgs

Before you start

  • You hold Docable Configure in both orgs. Exporting a template whose Brand Kit holds bank details or a signature also needs Docable Brand Manager.
  • Docable is installed in the org you are moving to.

Steps

  1. In the org you are moving from, open the Templates list and select exactly one template.

  2. Choose Export, then Export the template, and download the .docable.zip file.

  3. In the org you are moving to, open the Templates list and choose Import.

  4. Choose the .docable.zip file.

  5. When it finishes, choose Open the imported template.

  6. Assign Docable’s permission sets there. Choose Validate, make fresh proofs, then get a fresh approval and activate it: Approve and activate a template.

Example

Export the ForgeFlow quotation from a sandbox. The archive holds the template (its active version), the ForgeFlow Brand Kit versions it uses, and their pictures and fonts. It holds no records, approvals, proofs, test records or generated documents. In production the template arrives named like the original with (imported) added. The ForgeFlow kit is used if production already has the same approved version. Otherwise a new draft kit version waits for a Brand manager to approve it.

Check it worked

The template is listed as a new inactive draft. Importing the same archive again returns the template it already made, not a second copy. If the new org lacks a field, an object or access the template uses, the import saves the draft and says how many problems it has.

If it doesn’t work

What you see What to do
The archive is damaged or was changed after it was exported. Export it again. Do not edit the file.
This archive was made by a newer Docable that this org can’t read yet. Update Docable in this org to the same or a newer version.
The archive is larger than 10 MB when unpacked, or holds more than 200 files. Export a template that uses fewer pictures and fonts.
