Fix a template after your Salesforce data changes
Last updated 25 October 2026.
By the end of this guide a template that stopped after a field, object or access change makes documents again, from a new active version. It is for template authors.
Docable checks your data and each person’s access again for every proof and every document. When the schema no longer matches the template, documents stop with a message until you activate a fixed version.
Before you start
- You have the Template Author role (Docable Configure and Docable Definition Author).
- Someone with the Approver role can approve and activate the fixed version.
Steps
-
Open the template and choose Validate.
-
Choose Go to it beside each problem.
-
Fix each connection: select the chip and choose Replace with another field…, or choose Remove from the document.
-
If the Brand Kit has a newer approved version, choose Page › Brand Kit and the Use button for it. The newer version needs new proofs.
-
Choose Save.
-
Choose Make PDF and Word proofs and check both files: Check a template with Preview, Validate and proofs.
-
Ask an Approver to approve and activate the new version.
Example
Read the message a document stops with, then act on its next step.
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
SNAPSHOT_SCHEMA_CHANGED: Refresh the template and current source schema. |
The template’s source no longer matches the org. | Steps 1 to 7. |
SNAPSHOT_DEPENDENCY_CHANGED: Refresh the exact optional Brand Kit version. |
The template’s Brand Kit version no longer matches. | Choose the kit again under Page › Brand Kit, then steps 5 to 7. |
MODEL_ROOT_UNAVAILABLE or DATA_REFERENCE_KIND_HIDDEN |
The person cannot read the object, or a record points at a kind of record they cannot see. | This is access, not schema. Ask an administrator. |
Check it worked
Validate reads No problems found, the new version is Active, and the next document is made. Documents already made are not rewritten, and a retry uses the data captured the first time.
If it doesn’t work
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| A colleague still gets the error after you fixed it. | Field permissions apply to each person at their next proof or document. Ask an administrator to check their access to the field. |
| The new version is approved but still not making documents. | Approval does not activate it. Choose Activate…. |
| An old document cannot be made again exactly. | Its saved data has expired. Generate it again to use today’s data. |
