Check what you need before you install
Last updated 25 October 2026.
By the end you know which sandbox, people and Salesforce features you need before you install Docable. This checklist is for Salesforce administrators and the person buying Docable.
Before you start
- You can see the sandbox’s Setup, or you can ask the administrator who can.
- You know which document you want to make first.
Steps
Steps 1 to 4 are needed. Step 5 is optional.
-
Choose a sandbox to install into. Install into a sandbox first and use synthetic or low-risk records. We confirm the supported Salesforce editions and releases when we send the install link.
-
Name the people who will use it. Docable’s access comes from its own permission sets, which you assign by role on the next pages. Approval is on by default, so plan for two people on your first template: an author and a different approver.
-
Check your storage. Documents you keep on records use file storage. Docable’s own records use data storage, and you set how long it keeps them in Docable Setup.
-
Switch on the Salesforce feature your quick start needs. Quick starts built on Orders, Quotes, Field Service or another optional feature (such as Return Orders, Entitlements or Salesforce Billing) appear only where that feature is on. Blank works on any object you can read.
-
Decide on the extras. Nothing here is needed to write, approve or generate.
Extra What it needs AI in the editor Einstein generative AI on; Docable’s AI extension; your administrator’s Docable AI Task Mappings; the Salesforce licence they name, assigned to each person; Docable Use AI with its AI authoring storage set Claude Enterprise Edition or above; an administrator adds the Docable Studio server once. Salesforce says hosted MCP servers may be billed, and each tool call counts against your daily API requests Agentforce An org where Agentforce agents are available and licensed Your own storage An administrator connects a destination. Until then, documents are saved as Salesforce Files Experience Cloud Needed only if guests or portal members request documents
Example
To make the ForgeFlow quotation you need a sandbox with Quotes on, because the Branded quotation quick start is built on the Quote object. One person writes the template (Docable Configure and Docable Definition Author), a second approves it (Docable Activate Template and Docable Lifecycle Reviewer), and a third generates from a quote (Docable Generate and Docable Runtime Generator Storage).
Check it worked
You can name a sandbox, two people, the Salesforce features your quick start needs, and which extras you will skip.
If it doesn’t work
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| You want Claude and your org is below Enterprise Edition. | Use the assistant in Docable instead, or write by hand. Nothing else in Docable depends on Claude. |
| A quick start you expect is missing. | It needs a feature this org doesn’t have on, such as Orders, Quotes, Field Service or Salesforce Billing. Switch the feature on in Setup, or start from Blank. |
| Nobody else can approve. | Give a second person Docable Activate Template and Docable Lifecycle Reviewer, or an administrator switches off The approver must be someone other than the author in Docable Setup › Approval. |
