Customer sign-off with no signal in the Field Service app

Last updated 29 October 2026.

The customer signs on the technician’s phone, in a plant room, a basement or on a roof, with no signal. The technician taps Submit and moves on. When the phone syncs, Docable makes the signed PDF from the work order and files it there. Nobody has to come back and tap anything.

This guide follows one document from start to finish: the site visit report for work order 00000046, an annual service of a roof-top solar array for HelioGrid, a sample brand.

Before the visit

  • Your administrator has set up the action once. See Set up Docable for the Field Service app.
  • The template has a signature block for each signer set to Signed when the document is made. See Set up the template.
  • The technician’s phone has synced since the template was made active. Each document’s example comes to the phone with the job; there is nothing to open online first.

1. Open the job and take the photos

Take the job’s photos first. A photo taken before Submit is in the document, even while it is still uploading.

Tap Actions, then Generate Service Document.

2. Choose the document

With no signal, the line at the top reads Offline · the document is made when you’re back online, and the documents for the job are still listed.

The Field Service mobile app with no signal, marked OFFLINE: Generate Service Document with the line Offline, the document is made when you're back online, and the documents for the job: Annual service visit, Completion certificate, Service report and Site visit report, selected, with its two signatures and one question badges, then Make with PDF ticked and Preview and sign.
Offline: the documents for the job are still listed.

Choose the site visit report, then tap Preview and sign.

3. Check the example

The preview is an example made on the phone from the job, marked EXAMPLE. It shows what the document will show: the job’s details, its lines, the photos taken on the job, the counts, and only the sections and results that apply, such as All clear when every item passed. The banner says the document is made from the latest details when the phone is back online.

Generate Service Document in the Field Service mobile app while offline: the note Offline example, the document may differ and is made from the latest details when you're back online, and the example page of a site visit report for work order 00000046, Annual service: east roof array, rows 3 to 5, Coldharbour Leisure Centre, with the site photo, the result banners, the customer and site box and the work carried out, marked EXAMPLE, with Back and Submit at the foot.

If the document asks questions, such as a reading or a pass or fail, answer them now. A required one must be answered before Submit.

4. The customer signs

Tap Sign here · Customer. The signature sheet fills the phone, with the name filled in from the work order’s contact. The customer signs with a finger above the line, and taps Save.

If the customer has gone or won’t sign, tap Unable to sign? and choose the reason, with a note if needed. The document prints the reason where the signature would be.

5. The technician signs

Generate Service Document in the Field Service mobile app after the customer signed: the preview's sign-off with Sign here · Technician still open and Signed · Customer showing the drawn signature, the name and the date, the line Still to sign: Technician, and Back and Sign as Technician at the foot.
The customer has signed; the technician is still to sign.

Tap Sign here · Technician, sign and tap Save.

6. Submit

Tap Submit. The screen says Saved for later and closes. The request waits on the phone with the job’s other changes.

7. The phone syncs

When the phone has a signal again and syncs, Docable makes the site visit report from the work order as it is then, with the answers, the photos and both signatures, names and dates. The PDF is added to the work order’s Files, and each signature is saved on the work order as a Salesforce Digital Signature.

The report's sign-off: two handwritten signatures drawn on the phone, the customer's and the technician's, each above its line with Customer or Technician, the name, Daniel Price and Luke Taylor, and the date, 25 October 2026.

If the document can’t be made, Salesforce sends the notification A document saved on your phone wasn’t made. Tap it to open the record and make the document again.

Good to know

  • The document number and money totals are filled in when the document is made.
  • Several documents with one signature need a visit pack, such as the service report and the gas safety record for one boiler visit. See Visit packs.
  • No signal works in the Field Service mobile app. The Salesforce mobile app makes documents while connected.
